summer reading

Yesterday I had a tooth pulled; the perfect opportunity to curl up in the hammock with a stack of new books.

Are you seeing a theme here?  Perhaps you notice the dearth of raw food books.... oh yes I finally have enough of those, and I've really been enjoying pulling them out lately and revisiting some old favorite recipes and trying some new ones.  My CSA has begun (pictures soon!) and the bottom two cookbooks will use a lot of those yummy vegetables.  Since quitting alcohol I've been trying to go low - to - no sugar, harder than it sounds let me tell you.  And since this year I'm on the downside of 40, I thought I'd get prepared for the inevitable... I think knowledge is power.

And the sex secrets?  Well.... why not?

What's on your summer reading list?

jack

Today our dear cat Jack passed away.  He was murdered in his own yard, killed by a neighbor's dog that we had been watching while her owner was away.

My heart is breaking, I will miss him SO MUCH.  Nice Dad was lukewarm about Jack; he could be a nuisance.  Little P. loved him, but not so much as I did past his kittenhood.

He had grown into a handsome, playful, funny, loving companion.  He kept me company on some pretty dark nights over the past two years.

Of course he had various names.... as a newly rescued kitten from Animal Adoption, we knew he was not really Peanut.  First Black Magic, then Jack Black Magic, then Black Jack.  Followed closely by Crap Jack and my newest Jacket.

Oh my dear friend sail safely to the East.  What is remembered, lives.

end of school

Tomorrow is the last day of school.  It has been an amazing journey, midwifing this little class into the world of formal schooling.  They are as ready as they'll ever be.  We laughed, cried, and I rolled my eyes more times than I care to count.  Now the blessed summer stretches before me like a golden road.

Yesterday I dumped the contents of P.#2's backpack out on the table (see above).  Seems every day has been quite an adventure for my little soon - to - be second grader!  After extracting an open container of yogurt from the front pocket I relished the way she can really dig into life with both hands.

And tomorrow afternoon, I'm throwing that backpack in the trash.
